Oakura School Room Tawa 2022

Looking back at term 1 and what went well... At the end of the term we completed a reflection sheet and shared on it what we were proud of and enjoyed. Here are some of the results: made new friends having our family cultures and where we are from up in our room enjoyed buddy time parents proud of the work I am doing enjoyed the way we work meeting new people signing up for more activities having good friends and not fighting with them the persistence I showed in maths reading improvements I have made in reading and maths finishing my work early playing with other people What a great list! We are looking forward to more great things happening and challenging us throughout term 2.

On April 03 Wednesday, Olympian Mike Dawson came to the PC room to talk about his slalom kayaking at the Olympics. We had a fantastic time there listing to his wonderful journey. His story was really interesting and eye opening. He told us about the values he strives to achieve which included: respect, excellence and friendship. One child got dressed up in the gear he wears when he is competing. We hope you all like our photo.

Athletics Congratulations to everyone who competed in athletics! Some of the events include: high jump, javelin, long jump, 200 meter run, 100 meter sprint shotput and discus. We thank Coastal School for hosting athletics. The winning schools for the relays were Oakura and Coastal. We thank the parents who came and helped.  Good job to everyone who competed and we hope you do good next time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By Bodhi and Corey!

In room eight we had an awesome time at swimming sports. It was a wonderful day at swimming sports. We would like to say thankyou to all the parents, grandparents and care givers that came to the swimming sports and parents who time watched the championships , and also thank you for all the children who participated in the swimming sports. Beach Clean Up Tuesday the 25th of February Beach Clean Up was fun and hot. We helped the environment. We all got wet along the way walking through cold water but it was refreshing. We picked up lots of rubbish. We worked as a team.  After the beach clean up we walked to Corbett Park and had a sausage and played games.

Last week we were lucky enough to be one of the first classes to go walking in Pukeiti on a new track that isn't even on the map yet. They are turning the old train track into a bike track. It was a long walk with lots of up and downs. We had to cross rivers and climb over branches. We did it though! When we returned to Pukeiti we were lucky enough to see a rare gecko.  It was a busy day but a great adventure too.
