Interschool

Interschool 2019 This term we have played four different schools in a variety of sports. We have played rugby, netball, football, basketball and chess. It has been a lot of fun and we have shown good sportsmanship, perseverance and resilience. Interschool has given us the opportunity to represent our school in sports and activities we enjoy. We have also had a fabulous group of people who have welcomed our guests, organised afternoon tea, taken lots of great photos and helped with the score keeping and time keeping. It has been a fantastic experience.

Gymnastics

Gymnastics sessions at the YMCA This term we are having two gymnastics sessions at the YMCA. The instructors are teaching us how to do a lot of different activities safely.  We have been using:  T he beam - walking, jumping, dipping our foot to the side all while we remember to keep our head up looking forwards.  Learning to do forward rolls, handstands and cartwheels. Jumping off the little trampoline and landing safely on the big mat.  Bouncing our way down the bouncy mat learning to point our toes and use our arms for momentum. It is a lot of fun!    Warm up   Beam time with bouncy mats next door...

Marae Day

Marae Day This term we were lucky enough to have our whole school trip to the Oakura Marae. We walked down in the morning and were welcomed onto the Marae with a powhiri. Following the powhiri we all had some morning tea before starting on the activities. We began with poi for the girls and the rakau for the boys. We then moved onto doing a scavenger hunt and some weaving. Next Libby, Bodhi and Kath led us in waiata before we went to have further instruction in doing the haka. When we had completed all of the set activities it was time for the hangi. The hangi was delicious. We had a great day at the Marae! Powhiri Poi Scavenger Hunt Waiata Haka Hangi being dug up ready for us to enjoy! Hangi

ANZAC Baking

Image
ANZAC Baking At the start of the term we made ANZAC biscuits. As part of our classroom culture we chose different days and events that we thought were important and discussed how we would celebrate and remember those days. We chose baking ANZAC biscuits which was a lot of fun and they tasted great! We also completed research, writing, and art activities to help us learn more about why ANZAC day is important to New Zealanders. Busy making sure we got the amounts correct!

Calm Down Box

Image
Life Education Classroom  In room 8 we have been visiting the Life Education Classroom and learning what will calm us down in all different ways. In the Life Education Classroom we also talked about bullies and how to stop them in a calm way. The calm down box is when we have an object in our hand while we are inhaling and exhaling. We have made our own one for our class that we can use whenever we need too. Our calm down box filled with all sorts of things ready to help us clam down. We also recently learnt the Hot Chocolate method of breathing to help us calm down. The kindness grid is another activity we have completed which encouraged us to do kind things to others. Some positive thinking from the Life Education Classroom.
