Oakura School Room Tawa 2022

Room Tawa is a group of learners made up of 30 pupils and 1 teacher. 'Mahi tahi' means working together and we strive to do this in Room Tawa as well as trying to always 'Be Kind.' We are looking forward to a fun year filled with lots of learning and new experiences.

A timely reminder that it is not safe to walk behind the parked cars at the 4 Square. Use the Donnelly Street crossing then walk along the main road.

Dog Safety

Today we learnt some very important lessons about how to stay safe when we are around dogs that we don't know. Check it's sweet - before you meet! To understand - they sniff your hand! Chin or chest - that's the best! We are bringing home an information sheet to share today

Life Education

Over the past two weeks we have had the opportunity to have two sessions with Megan and Harold. We focused on Cyber Safety. We learnt the importance of having a long password, keeping personal information to ourselves, not be involved in conversations online, not to share photos, once things have been shared on the internet they are part of the World Wide Web, think before you post, use sites suitable for our age - they have an age restriction for a reason, use devices where an adult can see you and only share with people you trust because once you have sent it you can't get it back.

Swim Safety

March 22, 2022

We had a swim safety lesson today. We wore clothes over top of togs, 'fell overboard', treaded water for a minute, removed clothes (NOT togs), and continued treading water until the 'boat' came back, raised our hand to indicate we needed help, and were finally rescued! It was a tricky task but one that taught us the importance of always being safe and aware of our environment.
